Kingston, NY is located on the beautiful Hudson River 91 miles north of New York City and 50 miles south of Albany, NY our state Capitol. Resting at the foot of the Catskill Mountains we can see the tallest peak, Slide Mountain. Twenty miles west on Route 28 is Ashokan where the Ashokan Reservoir, a watershed for NYC. The NYS Thruway has exit 19 for easy access to Kingston.
A modest city we are a mix of the modern yet revere our unique heritage as one of the first Dutch settlements in the mid 1600. Many of the original stone houses, including dwellings built through the American Revolution to the Civil War are still standing even today and are well taken care of. Some are homes and others are used by prosperous businesses. Kingston was the first Capitol of New York and was attacked and burned by the British in October,1777 in an act of spite. Kingstonians have a shining record for our call to duty and have been commemorated for every war we have steadfastly defended our city and country.
The Stockade area in the North Front Street district is where the Dutch heritage comes alive in the hearts and souls of all who visit the many sites of interest and the Senate House Museum.
On the other side of town is the waterway portal to Kingston, first used by the settlers and in strong use today. Kingston Waterfront on The Roundout Creek is the mainstay of lower Broadway. The Marinetine Museum, marinas, boats, Hudson sightseeing on the Rip Van Winkle, music in the park and entertainment and the many varied restaurants will give the visitor a full days agenda of the many interesting things to see and do.
