Confused and frightened citizens of Kingston hurry to evacuate their beloved city after an advance warning that English Marines and Brigadiers were going to attack by water at Kingston Point. This is where the lifeblood of the majestic Hudson river accepted the gentle flowing tributory water of the Roundout Creek. Kingston was considered the backbone of the revolution by the British and they demanded revenge from this peaceful city. This was the colonists' home and they swore on the Bible that they would be back with an organized armed military vengeance someday.
A vicious and unneccessarly cruel attack ensued days later as the abandoned city was razed and burned to the ground by the heartless British. A brave handful of loyal American militia and defiant citizens stayed behind to protect their homes to no avail yet they managed to save the precious state records from the fallen Capital city during the chaos.
Many of the few defenders lost their lives to the merciless onslaught of the British regiment firing their well disciplined
flintlocks.
The year was 1777
